Step-by-Step Procedure for Ground
Medical Transportation
- Request for transport: Transport Coordinator answers
caller’s questions, obtains basic medical information
and completes request form.
- Origination: Location of client / passenger: e.g. Home,
ALF or nursing home etc; city, and state.
- Destination: where client / passenger is to be transported **
Note: Arrangements and acceptance must be confirmed prior
to arriving at facility. Name of facility and
address.
- Client / passenger date of birth.
- Date of transport: We request 24 hours notice
to set-up the transport.
- Cost: Payment options discussed. Note; Advantage of
going by coach. Coach picks-up at facility and transports
door-to-door. There are no additional ground costs or transfers.
- Contract is sent and signed along with an explanation
of services and charges.
- Call for Medical Report, Medical Clearance to travel: A
medical professional will get a full medical report from the
attending facility prior to transport and obtain medical clearance
to travel.
- Additional passengers are restricted to one family member at
no additional charge.
- Luggage: Two large pieces of luggage; Additional items
such as TV’s etc may be taken only with the prior approval
of the Dir. of Operations.
- Transport Begins: Departure from facility, loading of client
by wheelchair onto coach; all equipment, records and medication
travels with the client.
- In-transit: Special diets are arranged for diabetics, vegetarians.
Soft foods, puddings, applesauce, yogurt etc are available at
all times as are snacks, hot and cold beverages. Prior arrangements
are made for full breakfast, lunch and dinner at restaurants
or one may order take-out dinners.
- During the trip; Passengers may just relax and watch
the countryside, rest or sleep, or watch TV, movies, play
games, read magazines and be entertained by the caregiver nurse or medic.
- Transport coordinators are in contact with the coaches
and provide updated time of arrival (ETA) to relatives and the
facility.
- Completion: Family members, facility, and parties involved
are notified of patient’s arrival and client is assisted
into the receiving facility.
